Secure your MySQL Data Bases

Joomla's2Go! is offering you the last Joomla! version fully tested, inside Server2Go...

But, Server2Go is configured by default with the following paramenters:

Server phpmyadmin: "localhost"

MySQL Data base User: "root"

Password: " " (empty, in other words, no password)

It is very important, to protect (encode) allways the data bases of your sites, but will be a must have caution to protect your DB's in all the cases that you will plan to distribute them as your Porfolio or simply as a "Demo" in CD o DVD!.

Hereinafter, we explain how to do it inside all your Joomla's2Go! compilations with Joomla! working inside Server2Go!:

Process:

if you are using Joomla! 1.0.x version before to start, make a copy of your Dir with Joomla's2Go!, rename it and check that the file "configuration.php" is correctly edited by default, as described in our FAQ's article named "How to edit or to repair the configutation.php file?"

To be able to modify your Username and Password in your MySQL DB inside Server2Go just follow the steps as detailled , hereinafter:

You will need to adquire the program "Server2Go Configurator", under "Gold Donation Level" licence, directly from the Server2Go website.

Modify temporarily the parameter inside the file "pms_config.ini" as follows:

From "DefaultRoot=htdocs/joomlas2go/" to "DefaultRoot=htdocs"

Run now the file "Server2Go.exe" y and will access to the Server configuration.

"Click" on "MySQL: phpMyAdmin", and select your DB and edit its Privileges"

Edit the User "root" in "localhost" host and click on o clic en "Acción" to edit it, and establish the mew password for the user "root". Do not forget this changes if not you will not be able to access to your DB anymore through "phpmyadmin" untill you will use the file "Server2Go Configurator" for updating you file "Server2Go.exe " with this data.

Shut-down Internet Explorer... to make the server to be closed, automatically.

Check your "Windows Task Administrator" (Ctrl+Alt-Supr to open it) and see if some one of the following process are still active: Apache.exe, Server2Go.exe y mysqld.exe inside the list of Process tab. If some one of them is still there terminate it, manually.

Restore your the parameter inside your file "pms_config.ini", from:

"DefaultRoot=htdocs" to "DefaultRoot=htdocs/joomlas2go/"

Run the file "Server2GoConfigurator vs 0.3.0.exe" that you got from the Server2Go website and inside select your "Server2Go.exe" file, and asign inside the field "New MySQL Username" root and in the field "New MySQL" your new password

Still pending to update your "configuration.php" file from your Joomla! compilation with the new password in:

For Joomla! 1.0.x: From $mosConfig_password = ''; to $mosConfig_password = 'your new password';

Para Joomla! 1.5.x: From var $password = ''; to var $password = 'your new password';

Now, run the file "Server2Go.exe" and you will access to your site inside Joomla's2Go!

Note: It is not really secure to have encoded your MySQL DB with a new password if still you are showing you DBName, Username and Password inside your "configuration.php" file inside your Joomla! compilation of your Joomla's2Go!:

We strongly recommend you read our article: "How to encrypt the configuration.php file inside Joomla's2Go!" in our Wiki, to know how to encrypt your "configuration.php" file.
